Dad's Turn- Little Monkey
Those that know me well know that I was a bit taken aback when we found out we were having a little girl. I just assumed, as is natural for most recovering meat heads, that I would have a boy. A boy that I could start prepping for a career in the NFL almost immediately. I obviously came to terms with fathering a little Miss but still instantly began to compare Lyla's progress against other babies. Lately I have had a lot to be proud of.
Recently while touring a local daycare Lyla met a little boy approximately two months older than her (named Axel by the way)... and promptly used his face to stand herself up and grab the toys on the table behind him. Last week at the child care at Life Time, Lyla had two fellow 9 month old girls with her in the infant room. She however decided she was getting the hell out of there. While the other two just laid there she used the bouncy seats around the perimeter of the room to walk all the way around the room and was slapping the door and reaching for the handle when I came back to get her.
So needless to say L is going to be a professional athlete of some kind... maybe not football, but I am sure the Olympics at least.

Thanksgiving Week
We made the executive decision a while ago that we wouldn't be traveling for the holidays. It's just too rough on our schedules (I am not a nice person on no sleep), and seeing everyone we want to over a short time is pretty stressful. Luckily we have some amazing family who decided to come visit us for each holiday. It was so great to have a full house for Thanksgiving, and L loved all the attention. Seeing her interact with with her grandma, grandpa, aunt, and uncle was so cute.
I realized that I had two new things to be thankful for this year. I am so incredibly, indescribably thankful for the chance to love on that sweet girl every day of my life. I am also thankful for the endless amount of family that also love her so much. That little baby is so blessed to have so many wonderful people in her life.
The time with family went fast, as it always does. When everyone left, the quietness of the house about killed me. I really miss home. And I hope every last one of our family and friends knows how much we love them and how thankful we are for their presence in our lives.
Here are some pics from our great little week. :)

Thankful
Every year I am amazed at the number of things we have to be thankful for, but I'd be lying if I said these two weren't at the top of the list. They make my heart happy.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! L sure enjoyed her first little feast. :)

Insta Weekend

L woke up Friday with a 103 degree fever, so needless to say we made a trip to the doc, (who said "so, she's actually sick this time!" as she walks into the room...), and took it easy for the weekend. The poor girl had a fever the whole weekend, and was a lethargic, sleepy little thing. I managed to keep a level head (most of the time) with her being sick, and took full advantage of the snuggle bug she was for that short time. We actually read books. Full books. I hated knowing she didn't feel well, but it was kinda nice having her sit still while we took turns holding her close.
I also managed to get out for a bit to stock up for Thanksgiving, and picked up some belt stretchers to prepare. Those jalapeno poppers...to die for.
On a side note, why do I have to ball every time I read "Love You Forever"? Seriously, heaving sobs as soon as I open it up. I think I need botox of the tear ducts.

Throwback Thursday
the good ol days |
Hello. Timothy here. Thought I'd join in on this whole "#TBT" thing and share a picture of before my life was ruined. This picture is a month or two BC...before child...and I had no idea what kind of s*&# was about to hit the fan. I used to have a guaranteed lap, all the fancy treats I could dream of, new toys after every shopping trip, everything I ever wanted. I was the baby....and then the baby came. I mean don't get me wrong, she's cute and sweet and blah, blah, blah. But I am seriously in need of some extra attention. And I'm not talking about the screaming, biting, slapping kind that my "sweet-as-sugar" sister provides.

She Said Dada!

again with the credit card |
As you already know (because Kassi has been rubbing it in your face) Lyla has been saying "mama" for a couple weeks now --- usually when she doesn't want to take a nap. And though I have been playing it cool, it has been gut wrenching for me to think that I haven't been around enough for my little monkey to say "dada". It also doesn't help that every idiot who finds out this little tid bit goes "oh wow! THAT is soooo weird... babies ALWAYS say 'dada' first."
Well, as you also may know Kassi has had to travel last week and this week giving me the perfect opportunity to teach her a few things. Not only did she say "dada" this last week but she also took her first steps tonight at only 9 months old... can't wait to tell Kassi when she gets home tomorrow night ;).

Sunday Funday
How great is this outfit? Dad picked it out, mocs and all. Those two are pretty adorable together.
And can someone please explain to Lyla that daylight savings time means you can sleep in an extra hour??
Except the early morning did result in this cute little jam sesh. :)
Enjoy the rest of the weekend...and GO BRONCOS!

Snow Princess
Talk about a busy week! We've both had crazy work schedules this week, but managed to sneak out for a date night to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert. Those guys are spry for 50 year old! I swear I couldn't do all the jumping around they did, and I'm just about half their age. Also, drinking + staying out late = not as much fun as it used to be.
For Halloween we stocked up on candy and made sure to be home for "all" the trick or treaters we were guaranteed to get. I think we got 6 groups of kids...average age of 14 years old. Lame. Not having a sidewalk on our side of the street and party-pooper neighbors with their lights out definitely didn't help our cause, but what happened to the motivation, kids?? I remember insisting on stopping at EVERY house, no matter if the lights were on or not. Who wanted to miss out on the chance of candy?!
The highlight was dressing up our little baby doll in her snow princess costume. Cutest little snow princess of all time, I'd say. ;) She obviously had no clue what was going on, but we took lots of pictures and ate lots of candy for her. Happy First Halloween, baby girl! Can't wait to take you trick or treating next year!
