Halloween!

Halloween already feels like an eternity ago, but I can't not post these pictures because it was seriously the best ever.  Not that these pictures even fully capture that.  We're just at such good ages right now, where everything is so exciting and magical and fun.

We carved pumpkins for the first time since Lyla was almost 2, so I was nervous about the potential chaos going in, but it turned into such a fun night.  We only worked on 3 of the 5 pumpkins, and they all came out pretty cute!  We put in our candles and brought them outside.  The girls were thrilled and it turned into a whole family dance and song in the pitch black in our front yard.  (If you didn't already know this, most things turn into a family dance and song around here. ;)

On Halloween the boy and I got to attend Evie's Halloween party at school, then we all headed home and prepped for that night.  Evie transformed from Belle to a Ghostbuster, to go with the family theme.  Well, everyone in the family except for Lyla, who was a princess!  Shocking, I know.  ;)

Lyla begged for a $100 candy witch costume she'd found in a catalog.  She was told she could do chores and pay for half...but she didn't.  She was even bribed to stop sucking her thumb...but she didn't.  So we got creative and made a candy princess with tulle cotton candy and pipe cleaner lollipops.  It turned out pretty cute.  :)

It was the coldest Halloween I can remember for a while now, but the kids were resilient and goal oriented with their trick-or-treating, each getting way more candy than we'd need in a year.  Which is excellent because Ryan and I get to partake without anyone ever noticing.  ;)

Hope everyone had a great Halloween!  We're moving straight along to Christmas in this house.  Christmas carols and movies have begun, and I'm loving every bit of it!

Halloween!

2016 officially holds the record for best Halloween ever.  The girls were so into the spooky decorations and the candy and the costumes.  Evie has officially hit her stride with the whole dressing up thing, and spent most days as Sheriff Callie, a bunny, or Rey from Star Wars.  She's obsessed with the latest movie, always asking her dad to watch it and rambling on about BB8.

The girls got to dress up 3 times, ate a lifetime's worth of candy over the month of October, and Lyla even had her first school Halloween party and parade.  After the parade each class performed a couple of songs, and it was too cute.  Those little kids up on stage kill me.  All trying to grab the microphone, yet knowing none of the words or motions.  I love it so much.

Here are some photos from our various activities!  On to Thanksgiving and Christmas!!

I have no clue where the peace signs came from, but it cracks me up!

Lyla and her class, waiting for their turn to perform.

Cuties!

The whole class, and her Mrs. Potato Head teachers.  :)

Sheriff Callie and Cinderella, getting ready for a friend's party.

Those glass slippers!  :)

I had to bribe her with bubble gum for these smiles.

Yee haw!

Halloween night!  Getting ready to be Rey...in her bunny costume.

I think Lyla's favorite part of Halloween was getting to play with makeup.  :)

Cinderella and Prince Charming!

Rey and BB8.  :)

I joined the Star Wars theme, and got to be Kylo Ren.  If you even mention Star Wars to Sis she says "I'll show you the dark side" in the baddest voice she can come up with.  It's pretty darn cute.

Valley SCARE!

We've been wanting to take Lyla and Evie back to Valley Fair one more time before the season ends, so we took advantage of the warmer weather on Sunday and headed out to ride some rides.  With Halloween being around the corner they transformed the park into Valley Scare, complete with a haunted house and creepy decorations everywhere.  If there are two things our girls love, it's riding rides and creepy decorations, so it was pretty much their dream come true.

Lyla went through the haunted house with her dad, which made me a little nervous.  When they came out they told me how she'd looped both arms around her dad's arms, covered her ears with her hands and closed her eyes while being guided with dad's hands on her shoulders.  She calmly told me it was way too scary and she was not doing it again.  I couldn't believe how calm she was about the whole thing.  She may have been scared, but she handled it like a champ.  I am constantly impressed with her bravery!

Sis found a candy corn she wanted to take home, and a new found love for posing for pictures.  She couldn't stop cheesing it up with that huge, decorative candy corn.  It was pretty darn cute.  Especially for a girl that typically fights tooth and nail to NOT take a picture.

Sundays are always the best, but this one was particularly good.  :)

This carousel is from 1925!

Look at that pose and smile!  TOO CUTE.

She may not have looked, but she survived Zombie High School!

Meanwhile, Sis and I got photo bombed.  ;)

Had to have one more photo sesh with that big ol' candy corn!

Halloween!

Well, despite feeling like ish most of the week, we had a pretty great Halloween over here.  The weekend before Halloween we had two parties - the annual Life Time Spooktacular and a neighborhood party, not to mention the hundreds of dress rehearsals Lyla had around the house.

They were the Frozen sisters in their coronation outfits, and Lyla took the job very seriously.  She was decked out in heels, gloves, cape, crown, the works.  And despite sore feet, she didn't take those heels off once.  And I'd never been more proud.  ;)  Evie on the other hand had to be forced into her dress, but once it was on she'd twirl over and over to show it off.  She could not, however, be bothered to wear her crown.

Here are some pics from Spooktacular:

They hid behind my office doors with Lyla whispering "let's show off our fancy dresses!", opened up the doors and they were ready for the coronation!  :)

Lyla getting into character...Evie just being Evie.

Hugs...

...and then tantrums.  A normal day for the princesses.

The Elsa costume came with an official cape, but it was not long and dramatic enough for Lyla's taste.  She insisted on using this homemade one tied around her neck instead.  :)

The sis shuffle.  :)

This is the only picture we took of the neighborhood party.  I'd never dressed up with the girls before, and Lyla kept insisting I go as a mummy.  I opted for fairy godmother.  I mean, they got it from somewhere, right?  ;)

These pics are from actual Halloween.  It was a bit cooler that night, but they did not let the temps get them down.  Lyla played up the princess act, again wearing her heels the entire night.  I mean she rocked that whole neighborhood without a single complaint.  I even brought some comfy little Toms and offered them several times - and received an emphatic "no" each time.  Evie wanted absolutely nothing to do with trick or treating.  Ryan brought her up to one house where a teenager asked if she wanted a piece of candy.  She responded with her trademark - "noooooooooo!"  It was a good thing really, because Dad had already committed her pumpkin to more important things.  ;)

When we got back home we were already out of candy so Lyla kept sticking her own pumpkin with her precious goods out for the kids to take some.  Then she'd say "Happy Halloween!  Have a good night!"  Such a heart of gold.  A true little princess right there.

Hope you had a good Halloween too!

I told them to act like king and queen - this is what I got.

"Wait a second..."

We went trick or treating with two families across the street.  True to form, every girl was a princess.
